What's Happening Now

These kids are rockin' and rollin'!  They truly enjoy our motivating Sea Creature unit and have learned many new facts about various sea creatures.  This unit is cross curricular which means they are reading and writing as well as being mathematicians and scientists with sea creatures.  I have altered some of our math games to incorporate these creatures into the math learning.  In Reading Workshop this week, the focus continues to be on informational text.  We have read many books about Polar Bears and the kids are recording their "WOW Facts" on different types of organizational writing tools. Next week we will move to questioning before and after reading informational texts.  In Writer's Workshop, the kids are continuing to work on proper sentence structure and have been writing books galore on various "True" topics (factual) about things that they have knowledge about.  Next week, they will begin writing a book about the sea creature that they did their reports on.  Below is a photo from today's Reading workshop.  The kids wrote one "WOW FACT" each about Polar bears to add to a classroom poster. I was so impressed with everyone's sentence structure!
