Super Mathematicians

Today the kids exercised their math superpowers when playing a game called Five in a Row.  They were working on making sense of their math thinking and justifying their work with number equations.  It is so impressive to listen to them explain how they are adding two numbers determined through the rolling of dice.

Happy Thanksgiving

The kids are bringing home some cute turkeys today.  They learned how to turn a 2-D  circle into a 3-D cone to make the turkeys.  This lesson complemented our calendar math study for this month.

Rally Cat Visit

Friday was our whole school kickoff for "Pawsitive Coins".  This is our new positive reinforcement system that will be used school wide.  Students will be rewarded with "pawsitive coins" when they are caught honoring our school rules of being safe, responsible, and respectful.  Rally Cat, from UVM athletics, came to visit at our whole school assembly on Friday.  We were so lucky to have him visit our class as well!  When students earn a cat coin, it will be placed in our classroom reward jar.  This new system will replace our marbles.  It will be used in the same manor.  When all of our coins are earned, we will vote on a classroom reward. Those coins are then distributed into our whole school cat coin collection center.  When we meet our school wide cat coin collection goal, we will have a cool school wide celebration.  The kids are so excited and cannot wait to reach our first goal!

Reading Buddies

On Friday we had our first reading time with our 3rd grade reading buddies from Ms. Niles’ class.

Class Butterfly Book

Be on the lookout for this class book to come home.  We have finished our life science butterfly unit and the kids each created a page to a class book that reflects their learning.  The book will circulate home with the kids in the next few weeks.  Please take the time to read it with your child.  They are all very proud of this class book.

Math

Today the kids learned a new math game called Count and Compare.  Some also played Uno.  Two great number recognition games.
