Welcome to 2015 with your Kindergarten Student! If you have not already heard yet, we started a new unit about Sea Creatures. The kids will be reading, writing, doing mathematics and science as well as practicing being fantastic thinkers while learning about sea creatures. We are already sea creature crazy and the kids are having so much fun! Their natural curiosity about these animals is so motivating to me as a teacher. This time of year is the BEST in Kindergarten because they can do so much!
In Reader's Workshop, your kids are learning how to ask and write questions which we call their "Wonders" about sea creatures. They are also learning about the genre of informational text and will be writing "WOW" facts as well as teaching books about these animals in Writer's Workshop. In math, they will be comparing actual sizes of sea creatures and using sea creatures to do many numeracy activities.
If you have any expertise in this area of study, please let me know. The kids love to have special guests come in to teach them new information.
