Yesterday the students completed their final task for our Weather and Climate unit. They engineered hats that would shade their eyes from the sun using only paper, tape, and scissors. They were so creative! These young thinkers learned about four of our Next Generation Science Standards during this task: Asking Questions and Defining Problems, Planning and Carrying Out Investigations, Constructing Explanations and Design Solutions, and Engaging in Argument Using Evidence on why their design would work for protecting their eyes from the sun. When their hats were finished, they had to test their design against the rays of the sun (classroom lamp). Below are some photos that I took during the process.
