Your little ones are no doubt tired tonight after a fantastically fun day at Shelburne Farms. They made bread and butter, snacked on amazingly fresh fruits and vegetables while exploring the farm gardens, and played in the children's farm yard. We ended the day all together as a Journey Team to share the bread rolls that everyone pitched in to make. A great time was had by all!

Have they been "bucket fillers"?
Our focus the past few days has been passing along small acts of kindness so that every member of our classroom community goes home with a smile on their face! We read the two books below and each child decorated a bucket of their own. We have discussed what kindness and caring looks like. The kids have also role played some situations. The kids are working very hard today to fill their buckets as I have a fun cooking project surprise for them this afternoon as a reward for filling their buckets. It is now 9:30 am and they only have 10 more marbles to go!

Math Concept: Using Multiple Pathways to Show Mathematical Thinking
One topic we talk about a lot in Kindergarten is showing answers in multiple ways. These two kids are playing a partner game where one partner flashes a number using fingers. The other uses a number frame to make that number and then uses fingers to show the number in a different combination back to the partner. It teaches number recognition to five and basic addition to those who are ready.
Creating Mini-Me People
As part of our "Story of Me" September unit, the kids have been getting to know their role in our classroom environment as well as what makes everyone unique and special. Yesterday they began making their mini- me replicas. Today they will finish their bodies for the project. My hope is to have them on display for our Curriculum Night on Thursday.

FUNDATIONS Letters of the Week
Today was the second letter for instruction of letter, sound, and handwriting instruction. When these papers come home, have your child trace over the letter 5 X and have them teach you the visual phonic for that letter's sound. You could brainstorm some words that begin with that letter sound. This week's focus is t,b, and f.
Hopes and Dreams for Kindergarten
Today the kids finished up their Hopes and Dreams clouds. This activity included introduction to oil pastels, water color, scissors, glue, and construction paper. Before this activity, we discussed how important it is to all be doing what is best in order for their hopes and dreams to come true. Tomorrow we will devised classroom expectations together. The kids will work together to narrow down their many expectations to one very important one to remember: BE YOUR BEST SELF. More to come on this tomorrow.
