A Few Beginning Activities

After talking about how we all have the right to have fun and learn in our classroom, the children were introduced to these three school and classroom rules.  Each student illustrated a picture of what they can do to be safe, responsible, and respectful at school.  This student chose to draw a picture about walking in line single file with quiet voices.  I love the smiling faces!

This song is so much fun! The children now know it by heart and can use their tracking fingers to read along.

During Fundations (Word Study Time) on Friday,  the students were introduced to their first letter of the year.  We will begin with lower case letters.  The skills taught include letter identification, letter sound, letter visual phonic (visual cueing system for letter sound), and handwriting practice.  Also included are books for each letter that have one word per page all beginning with that letter.   More work will be done on identifying more words with the same beginning sounds.

Popcorn Party Reward

Our class earned a popcorn party on Friday for filling our cat coin reward jar.  Way to go Class!

Welcome Kindergarten Class of 2020!

I am so excited to learn more about all of my new kindergarten friends!  I hope everyone had a great summer.  I spend a lot of time with my kids and family!  One fun trip that we took was to Jay Peak for a family reunion.  This photo is of my son Langdon and I on the tram.  We rode up and hiked down the mountain.  It felt much steeper hiking down than skiing!

Future Musicians

This morning the children were so lucky to explore instruments found in the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.  They listened to a story told by the Instrument Zookeeper about the evolution of instruments.  Then had about 30 minutes to explore.  Here are some photos of their fun.
